A useful explanation answers two questions: what does the idea mean, and when can it be used? The SCALE framework connects Science, Concepts, Analysis, Learning and Excellence around these questions.
The learning sequence moves from concept explanation to worked examples, guided practice and independent work. A short assessment and a review of mistakes help identify the next topic or skill to revisit.
For example, a force problem starts with a diagram and the net force before substituting into an equation. Students can then compare methods, check units and explain why the result makes sense.
